This mini exhibition with two original paintings is showed online by Gallery JT Ltd with one water colour and one oil painting that both most probably are painted in Stockholm and/or in France before Carl Larsson definately moved to Sundborn in Dalecarlia and the name of this exhibition online is therefore: Carl Larsson before Sundborn. Many tourists often ask us the question: Why is there no Carl Larsson museum in Stockholm? The answer is that Carl Larssons paintings are widely spread in private and museal collections all over the world and therefore not available for viewing in one single museum. In Sundborn Carl Larssons paintings and life before Sundborn is naturally less described than his life and paintings from Sundborn. In Sweden the earlier period of Carl Larssons is perhaps best described and shown by the Swedish National gallery of fine art in Stockholm in the exhibition Carl Larsson and this is what they write in the book Carl Larsson 1992 about Carl Larssons style until 1882, text translated into english from Swedish language: quote: Early works, Every artist is going through a development consisting of several separate phases on the way to artistical ripeness. In the case of Carl Larsson this process was more than usual upheaval, revolutionary. Fully grown into his academic studies and with impressions from the french saloon arts he developed a traditionally and often symbolically and literally coloured style. The earlier works are clearly separated without any direct stylistic connections to Carl Larssons later productions. end of quote. The small water colour in this Carl Larsson exhibition is a little open air painting and Carl Larsson is described to have painted thís sort of open air paintings especially in France where he also came in contact with the so called Barbizon school. Provenance: The painting comes from a private home in Falun, Dalecarlia in Sweden. The other painting by Carl Larsson that are being sold by Gallery JT Ltd is a larger oil painting on canvas signed Carl Larsson and dated -83,(1883) and it also displays another type of painting than the style in painting Carl Larsson later developed during his period in Sundborn, Dalecarlia, Sweden. -Provenance: Previous owner lived in Stockholm when the painting was bought. For information about provenances, -see information About us, about provenances to the lower left under information. Both paintings have their own descriptions and they can maybe give a glimpse of how Carl Larsson who today is mostly renowned for his idyllic paintings from Sundborn painted before this new period in Sundborn really started. This new period in Sundborn meant great changes for Carl Larsson both personally with a new wife and also artistically with a much more happier view on things in general. Carl Larsson was born in Stockholm and lived in Sundborn the last 18 years of his life.
